Your baby’s first year is filled with many milestones that go by so fast. The newborn days go by really fast and before you know it your new baby has lots of new tricks. Do you know what to expect in your child’s first year? Here are a few milestones that you you can look forward to!

First Year Milestones: 4 months old

At this age, your baby is definitely not a newborn anymore – they’re an infant! They’ve started to roll over and you don’t have them in a swaddle anymore. And you’re probably dealing with the dreaded 4 month sleep regression. You’ve probably already seen some baby smiles at this point, but what comes next is going to make all those sleepless nights worth it! Around 4 months, your baby will start to laugh. And it is the sweetest little sound you’ll ever hear!

What to Expect: 6 months old

All that tummy time you’ve done with your baby is really paying off. Around 6 months old, they’ll likely have the strength to sit up on their own. This was always such a big, bittersweet milestone for me with my kids because it made them seem SO BIG! Your baby will definitely seem a lot more grown up when they can sit up.

First Year Milestones: 8 months old

Your little one has probably figured out how to get themselves onto all fours and has been experimenting with rocking back and forth. Around 8 months, babies start to crawl…sometimes they do an “army crawl” and other times it’s on their hands and knees. Regardless of how they do it, they’ve learned that they can move from their one little spot and get that toy across the room that they’ve been eyeing. Time to start baby-proofing, Mama!

Happy Birthday!: 12 months

Your baby is one year old. Didn’t that year go by SO fast? Give yourself a pat on the back, you did it! Once your baby turns one, they’ll probably have mastered pulling up on furniture (make sure everything is bolted to the wall!) and they make standing look easy. Every child is different, but one year old is the average age that little ones start walking! My son started walking the day before his first birthday and my daughter enjoyed being carried around until she was 17 months old! Once baby starts walking, its a whole new ball game!

All these milestones come and go so fast. There will be many more in the years ahead, but the first year is always so sweet.
