Social media is crazy, you guys. I connected with the sweet mama, Dr. Nikki Berner, on Instagram back in 2020. She’s a physical therapist and focuses on servicing pregnant and postpartum women, and I thought, WOW! This girl would be such a great resource for my newborn mamas! She shares lots of helpful tips and information, and turns out, she was pregnant herself with her first child!
As we got to “know” each other on Instagram, it turns out we had a lot in common! We both spell our names with two k’s, neither of us have siblings, we’re both Virgos, and we just happen to live around the corner from each other! We were meant to be friends!
One of the many amazing things about this session (besides the beautiful house, amazing light, and gorgeous parents!) was that this mama was down for anything! I wanted to try some different things with her, and she never balked at me. Yep – I sure did have this 3 week postpartum mama get down on the floor while I stood right over her. I also meowed at her dogs to get them to look at the camera. Anything for the shot!
For all my newborn sessions, my goal is to get the shot that grandma wants (everyone posed smiling at the camera), a shot that you can use for a birth announcement card, nursery details, and then a variety of shots that can be made into an album to tell your baby’s newborn story. I want you to see your newborn pictures as not just snapshots, but pieces of art that you will cherish for years to come.
What are some of your must have shots for your newborn session? Tell me in the comments!
