Forget the Fall Mini Session – 4 benefits of in-home family photos

Uncategorized

back to blog

The fall season is the most popular season for families to schedule their annual fall mini session. Fall is the lead-up season to the holidays, which makes ordering holiday cards and gifting framed photos and artwork ideal. However, I think that what many families love most about fall is the changing colors in the trees. Personally, I don’t often photograph clients outdoors. The unpredictable Fort Worth weather and risk of scary critters (can we say “rattlesnake boots”??) is enough to keep me indoors year round. But family photos in your home have so many benefits that you can’t get with a fall mini session in a field. This fall, consider opting for a more timeless feel to your family photography shoot. I’ll never tire of photographing your family inside your home. Let me share four benefits of an in-home family session this fall!

Fall mini sessions take place at unfamiliar locations

  1. In-home family photography sessions take place in everyone’s safe and comfortable place: home.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: everyone, from the littlest family member to even us as parents, is more comfortable at home. By choosing for your photography session to take place in your house, your family already feels more relaxed. Everyone is at ease because they’re in a familiar environment. This is especially true for children, who often share more genuine, natural expressions and interactions when they feel carefree at home.

Does fall foliage match your in-home decor?

  1. Planning an in-home family photoshoot ensures that the photographs we’ll capture are evergreen. This means they’re not season-specific like many outdoor fall photos and can be displayed in your home year-round.

Something you might not have thought about when it comes to in-home photography is that photos taken IN your home also display beautifully IN your home! Why? It all matches!

The busy fall photography season often means that families opts for outdoor photos with beautiful fall trees in the background. And while I love a good outing in the fall, it’s not necessarily the aesthetic that I want to display in my home year-round. Photos that aren’t themed or aren’t specific to a certain season or holiday make it easy for you to display and appreciate your photos all the time.

When 90 degrees is a cool front….

  1. By opting for an in-home photography experience, you’re able to avoid the unpredictable nature of weather!

Whether you’ve called Fort Worth (or Texas, for that matter) “home” for a little while or for many years, you know that the weather can be unpredictable at any time of the year. From buggy days outside to the 95 degree October evenings, it can be difficult to schedule an outdoor photography session that is contingent on optimal weather conditions.

A 20 minute Fall Mini Session is fast and furious!

  1. In the busy fall seasons, many photographers opt to offer back-to-back mini sessions, which are well intended in theory, but often cause undue stress and hustle for families in an already busy season.

Mini sessions are especially common for photographers to offer in the busy fall season. This is because scheduling back-to-back sessions allows photographers to serve many families in a specific window of time.

Despite everyone’s best intentions, however, this traditional mini session format is not ideal for clients (especially for young families.) Everyone is pressed for time, including the photographer. Mini sessions don’t typically allow ample time for young children to get to know the photographer or to feel comfortable in front of the camera. This can lead to high-stress emotions from the child, and ultimately for the parents. In addition, traveling from your home to a session location, can result in the dreaded car nap. No one wants to wake a sleeping baby or toddler to go take photographs!

This fall, consider these unique benefits of an in-home photography session, so that you can enjoy a more personalized and stress-free family photo experience.
