Here at Nikki Caviness Photography, I do things differently. I’ve tested out some different types of session offerings. I’ve tweaked my style, updated my pricing, limited the number of sessions I offer., and refined how I run my business. But what has stayed the same is my desire to create beautiful images that my clients love while making it EASY for them. I do things differently than other photographers you’ve come across in our market. And I’ve carefully thought through your experience as a client as I’ve made each of these business decisions. Want to hear more about what makes Nikki Caviness Photography different? Read on….
I talk to you.
Yep, on the phone. I call you. Nowadays we are so conditioned to either email or text back and forth, but for an investment as special as newborn or family photos, I want to talk to you on the phone. I want to find out what you are looking for in your newborn or family session and make sure my work is a good fit for what you want. I also want to make sure that we talk through how my process works and if you have any questions, I can answer them for you right then and there. No waiting for me to email you back. No wondering what comes next. You get my full attention so I can tell you everything you need to know.
How I prep you for your session.
Yes, I send you a prep guide, just like most other photographers do (at least I hope they do!) But what I offer that most other photographers don’t is access to an online styling service. One thing that new moms or busy parents don’t want to worry about is what to wear for their photos. This is why I offer online styling, as a way to make it simple for my clients to narrow down and select their outfits. Being able to easily choose coordinating outfits that fit your style for each member of your family with direct links to where to purchase means you aren’t scouring the internet for days. It is easy and fast. And the best part and what other photographers can’t offer? I’m a former stylist so I pull from my training and education to give you my honest opinion on how something will fit and how it will photograph. I’m here to help!
When I shoot newborn sessions.
Many newborn photographers insist on shooting newborns before they turn 2 weeks old. That is NOT a requirement with me, and I actually prefer to schedule newborn sessions when baby is between 3 and 6 weeks for a few reasons.
This gives mom more time to heal. If you’re a first time parent, noone may have given you the heads up that child birth is a major medical event. You probably won’t feel yourself afterwards and may physically be a bit uncomfortable. First and foremost, I want you to be comfortable, and this extra time to recover from child birth is key in the success of my newborn sessions.
Secondly, it gives your family time to adjust to having a new baby at home. Whether it is your first child and you are getting used to your new sleep schedule (or lack thereof!), or if you have other little ones at home that are adjusting to their new role as big brother or big sister – a little extra time to adjust doesn’t hurt anyone.
Lastly, scheduling your session once your newborn is slightly older means they have more time to fill out and aren’t as sleepy. Yes, of course they’ll still be sleepy and I’ll get those sleepy newborn photos. But they will also be awake. And getting pictures of your newborn with their eyes open isn’t something that all newborn photographers capture. I want you to have pictures of your baby with their eyes open so you can remember what they were like.
You don’t pay for your pictures until you see them.
With many photographers, you are required to pay 100% up front. I’ve structured my business so that you pay a session fee to reserve your date. Then, after your gallery is ready, you’ll purchase which collection works best for you. When your gallery is ready, you’ll receive a stunning slideshow set to music (I love for my clients to watch it together as a family!) It is available for 24 hours for you to watch as many times as you’d like during that time. And only after you’ve seen all of your photos, will you then purchase a collection. But as I mentioned before…I like things to be easy! Part of making things easy is being flexible. I don’t force you to buy a big printed canvas or 3 8X10s or wallet prints that you’ll never use. Each collection includes a set amount of digital images and then a specific amount of a print credit which can be used in my gallery store on any items you’d like (including additional digitals!)
So like I mentioned, I do things a little bit differently here at Nikki Caviness Photography. But I do it all to provide the best experience possible for my clients. Life is stressful and crazy enough when you have a newborn or littles at home. Let’s make your photography experience easy. I’d love to talk to you more in depth about what I provide for my clients – reach out so I can share even more with you!
