Small Business Spotlight – Kirk and Vess

One of the best parts of being a newborn and family photographer in Fort Worth is the incredible women that I get to meet. Over the years, I’ve learned that my clients are not only inspirational moms and truly kind people, but many of them are driven and extremely smart entrepreneurs!

I’m not one to gatekeep when I find something worth knowing about, so I’ve decided I just have to introduce you to several of these women who offer something that I know you will benefit from.

First up, I’d love to introduce you to Claire Vess, owner of Kirk and Vess based in Aledo, Texas. First and foremost, she is a loving mother who takes pride in raising three wonderful boys. Previously, she had a career as a fashion showroom representative, where her passion for style and trends were cultivated and refined. In pursuit of her dreams, she took a leap and established her own clothing boutique called Kirk and Vess. As the owner, she curates a unique collection of fashionable pieces, catering to the diverse tastes of her clientele. Her determination, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit have helped her carve out a niche in the fashion industry. Through her boutique, she continues to inspire others with her impeccable sense of style and dedication to providing exceptional customer experiences.

At the cusp of Fall…

Here we are at the cusp of Fall. Cooler temps, Friday night lights, and must we not forget – family photos for holiday greetings.

Whilst conceiving the perfect setting and attire for family portraits, I immediately head to publications that ooze sophistication and class for inspiration. Those of which are typically Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, even Architectural Digest.

Whether you imagine your family donning elegant ensembles of satin and velvet or prefer something more relaxed, there will be inspiration for both.

Explore with me several different ideas to ensure your family photos don’t become an over-styled, chintzy snapshot, but family heirlooms you will treasure from here forward.

Where to begin…

What is your vibe? Casual/Dressy? Tailored/ Natural? Feminine/ Avant Garde?

Next, choose your color palette. If classic is the goal, choose tonal outfits with contrasting patterns and textures. Imagine creams, beiges, and whites or greys and blues. If you prefer to make a statement, choose colors that are high-contrast, like black or navy and white, perhaps even a pop of red.

What’s next….

NEXT.. MIX TEXTURES, but don’t get crazy with prints {and wear something that covers your knees–trust me..}. Mix unexpected materials like satin and cable knit or pair denim with gauzy ethereal materials like Embroidered Cotton or Guipure lace. The juxtaposition of masculine and feminine details are what give images the “WOW” factor.
