Whether you’re expecting a baby or you’ve just welcomed a new member of your family, creating a cozy, functional, and stylish nursery is likely important to you. As an interior designer and the owner of Fount House in Fort Worth, I’m here to help you navigate designing a nursery space that the whole family can enjoy!
Let’s explore the top baby nursery design trends as we approach 2025. It’s my goal to give you plenty of inspiration to create a space that’s not only adorable but also reflects your family’s unique style and needs. From soothing color palettes to eco-friendly materials, I hope these trends will help you design a nursery that’s perfect for your growing family!
Embrace Colorful Nursery Design
I think the neutral nurseries have had their day, and it’s time to bring back color! It’s important when designing a nursery that we think not only about the beauty and the aesthetics of the space, but also what is best for a baby’s development.
Babies are visually stimulated by color, and modern nursery design can be responsive to that. The use of contrasting colors can help babies develop their vision skills. In addition, exposure to different textures play a role in a baby’s cognitive growth. Consider including furnishings in unique fabrics, like bouclé or tweed, and plush accents like soft, chenille blankets or pillows with silky accents. Different textures and fabrics help babies learn about their surroundings!

Incorporate Beloved Family Pastimes or Traditions in Your Nursery Design
As an experienced interior designer, one of my favorite things to incorporate in a nursery design is something that is unique to each family. I like to meet with families and ask them about their favorite hobbies or their most enjoyed childhood memories, so that I can incorporate something meaningful in the nursery design.
My favorite designs are ones that feature something that the parents plan to pass down to or share with their children. Sometimes, these designs feature physical items, but other times, the design is inspired by an activity or a lifestyle that is important to their family story. For instance, a recent nursery design was inspired by my client’s late father. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and so we incorporated art with these themes to honor him in the nursery design.

Stylish, Eco-Friendly Options
Every parent wants to protect their newborn baby, and that applies to nursery design, too! Opting for non-toxic and eco-friendly design choices is important to many families, and I love sourcing beautiful and sustainable furniture and styling options for my clients.
At Fount House, we love to incorporate organic cotton fabrics whenever possible, and we opt for 100% naturally dyed wool rugs, too. Wool is a great investment while also being a sustainable choice; it’s hypoallergenic and has sound absorption properties as well. The selection of eco-friendly fabrics, furnishings, and products on the market has never been better!
Mix The Old and The New
Every design needs something time-tested and beloved to complete the space, and my favorite way to achieve this in a nursery design is to bring in an antique.
From furniture and art to accents like rugs, antiques are always welcome in our designs. They add such a sense of warmth and charm to any space, including nurseries! It’s also a more sustainable and eco-friendly choice than purchasing a room full of brand new items.

Try Wallpaper for Pattern and Texture
Wallpaper, wallpaper, wallpaper! Incorporating wallpaper in your nursery design is a great way to bring in color and visual texture. I work closely with my design clients to choose a wallpaper design that has longevity, meaning that as the child grows, the pattern won’t feel too juvenile.
Today’s modern wallpaper is not the tired country or floral patterns of the 1980s and 1990s, and the application techniques have experienced quite the glow-up, too! Vinyl wall coverings are a great choice; this option is wipeable and easy to clean if someone happens to take a marker to the wall.

Wallpaper can be difficult to select and to imagine to scale, which is why we always have plenty of options in our Fort Worth storefront for clients to browse.
As you prepare for your baby’s arrival, I hope these tips help you feel confident in creating a space that feels comforting and welcoming to you and your little one. Whether you opt to incorporate the latest nursery design trends or mix in your personal touches, every nursery design is special because of the little one that will be living in it!
