How to Prepare for Your Spring In-Home Photography Session

Tips

back to blog

As spring creeps closer and we say goodbye to the cold temperatures, now’s a great time to plan family photos. A spring in-home photography session is a perfect way to capture your family in a bright, welcoming space. For families in Fort Worth and Aledo, spring brings a welcomed warm-up in temperatures and extra sunshine, which does wonders for natural light.

Whether you’re celebrating a new baby or simply want to document your family, spring is an ideal time to prepare your home for photos. That’s why I’m excited to share a few spring in-home photography session tips to help you create a space you’ll feel eager and excited to display!

Give Your Home a Refresh for Your Spring In-Home Photography Session

After all of the busyness of the holiday season has wrapped up, it’s a great time to show your home some love with a fresh spring clean! While I’m not concerned about your baseboards (so neither should you!), it can feel refreshing to prepare your home for its close-up. Consider decluttering any flat surfaces and giving your throw pillows an extra fluff before your session.

In addition, consider opening your curtains or blinds to let the natural light shine in. What I love most about the spring season is how good it feels to see the sunshine after a gloomy winter! I suggest that my clients focus on tidying up rooms in their home that typically have the most spring sunlight.

When it comes to photo session prep, it’s worthwhile to focus on tidying up your home to create a clean and inviting environment for your baby or your family to enjoy during your session. There’s no need to overdo it. Afterall, the beauty of capturing genuine family moments for you in your home is that the space adds warmth and authenticity to your photographs!

Incorporate Spring-Inspired Decor (Inside and Outside, Too!)

One of my favorite spring family photo session tips is to embrace the season in your home decor—and I don’t mean an explosion of bunny-shaped pillows or Easter baskets! Instead, consider displaying fresh flowers (tulips are a springtime favorite!) or opting for a light-colored throw on your bed or your sofa instead of a dark one.

Another way to evoke the springtime sense of renewal is in the textures that are sprinkled throughout your home. Consider adding a neutral or pastel-colored pillow or two to your sectional, placing a linen table runner on your kitchen table, or even situating your favorite potted plant near a window can communicate springy vibes.

One more quick tip: don’t neglect your outdoor space, especially if you have a beautiful front porch! Wintery temperatures can make it feel like we’re cooped up inside, so extending your family photography session out to your front porch is one way to celebrate the return of warmer temperatures and sunshine. Consider bringing in a vase of fresh flowers or a few potted plants to warm up your outdoor living space and prepare it for photos.

Style Your Family in Neutral Colors or Soft Pastels

Finally, when it comes to dressing your family, consider clothing in neutral colors and softer, lighter fabrics. The time has come to store those sweaters for the winter, and since your spring photography session will be taking place inside your home, you can feel free to wear your favorite springtime staples, including creamy neutral blouses, lightweight henleys, and more casual dresses.

In addition, don’t be afraid to bring in subtle springtime patterns, like gingham, polka dots, or floral prints. Be sure to only choose one or two family members to wear these patterns, and opt for neutral presentations of these patterns rather than bright and bold choices. Linen and chambray fabrics are well-suited for springtime photos, too!

Scheduling your in-home photography session in the spring is a wonderful way to capture your family before the busyness of summer. By preparing your home for your session with these tips, you can add simple seasonal touches and set the stage for photos that reflect both your family’s unique personality and the renewed energy of the spring season.
