How Often Should We Take Family or Milestone Photos?

One of the questions I’m asked most frequently as a photographer is how often families should schedule a photography session. And while the answer is definitely dependent upon your family’s stage of life, I recommend scheduling an annual photo session at minimum.

I often meet families for the first time when they welcome a newborn. Because that first year is full of so many changes, I recommend scheduling milestone sessions along the way—usually every 6 to 12 months. Then, continuing with an annual photo session after that first year is a great way to document your family as they grow. And there’s nothing better than seeing those same families return year after year for their annual sessions as their little ones grow.
