If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that for the past month I’ve been choosing one retail store and styling an entire family for a newborn or family lifestyle session. I’ve chosen looks from Target, H&M, Old Navy, and today, I’m putting together a sophisticated look with all items from Nordstrom.
Are you guys as big of a fan of Nordstrom as I am? I love that they have a variety of price points, free shipping, and they have the best customer service anywhere. Whenever anything has gone wrong (which is rarely and usually my fault!) they’ve made it right. Its kind of disappointing that at this point, we don’t have a retail store in Fort Worth. Thank goodness for the internet!
If you’re the type that prefers to be a bit dressier for family photos, then you are going to love this look. The colors and styles are refined but not stuffy, and all the pieces can easily be worn at a later time. I stuck with a neutral palette so this look will be appropriate no matter what your home decor is. Let’s jump in!
Dress | Men’s Shirt | Men’s Jeans | Little Boy’s Sweater | Little Boy’s Button-down | Little Boy’s Pants | Little Girl’s Dress
Mom
This dress is classic. It is white. It is simple. It is nursing-friendly. This faux wrap style is typically flattering no matter what your body type is. The high-low hemline gives it a unique twist. These characteristics of this dress make it a great option for a photo session.
Dad
For Dad, I chose a crisp, light pink button-down. The light color will act as a neutral and compliment the white of mom’s dress. The button-down shirt is naturally dressier, so it gives a put-together vibe to the outfit. I also chose a dark wash pair of jeans. This darker color makes the jeans dressier which elevates the overall look of the family.
Son
For the son, I chose a white button-down and decided to layer it with the grey sweater. The layered sweater adds a bit of texture and sophistication – layers also photograph nicely. However, this look will also look cohesive if you choose not to layer the sweater over top. I’m a fan of adding a pair of khaki colored pants to all of my sessions as a way to easily add warmth.
Daughter
This chambray dress is a great, neutral choice. It is a great twirling dress which is a great choice for adding movement to your images and it has a subtle leaf pattern to add some interest. Add some bloomers and a white bow to complete the outfit.
Lastly, as with my previous posts, I didn’t style the newborn baby. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about them! They just don’t need to be “styled”! Baby is EASY! Follow these 3 pointers for baby and you’re set:
- Get a diaper
- Get a neutral onesie
- Get a neutral swaddle
